Tips for reducing the risk of Occasional Diarrhea

Diarrhea can shatter your carefully made vacation plans or business trips,  at times leaving you bedridden for days. To avoid occasional diarrhea while abroad we recommend these simple tips:

  • Wash your hands often, especially before eating.
  • Avoid eating from street kiosks.
  • Avoid uncooked food and salads.
  • Use only bottled water for drinking and brushing teeth.
  • Take Travelan® as directed on the pack.

Diarrhea is characterized by the fairly abrupt onset of watery, loose or semi-formed stools associated with abdominal cramps, vomiting, nausea and fever. Diarrhea when travelling is often referred to as Montezuma’s Revenge, Delhi Belly, Montezuma’s Revenge or the Tourist Trots!

What to do if you get diarrhea?

Travelan® is designed to reduce the risk of occasional diarrhea, but once you are suffering from diarrhea, the appropriate treatment should be started. This includes:

  • Drink lots of fluids to prevent dehydration5.
  • Take over-the-counter medications and/or antibiotics (if prescribed by your Doctor) to manage symptoms5.

Consult a doctor with any medical concerns or if you suffer from the following symptoms:

  • Diarrhea for over 48 hours for adults and children over 6 year of age.
  • Dehydration.
  • A persistent high temperature.
  • Blood or mucus in the stool or severe abdominal pains.

Please note that Travelan® is not designed as a treatment once the diarrhea has started, however it may help in decreasing the severity and duration.
